choices, Choices, CHOICES...

choices, Choices, CHOICES...

As we kicked off our New Year we chose a word. I mean everyone does this right? The word... OVERWHELMING. No just kidding. But it really did describe the process of the INTERIOR OPTIONS. The nicest thing about building our dream home is that each process is separated. So I am only OVERWHELMED with one thing at a time. LOL!

Creating the OVERVIEW of our home process (Is this correct? Is it always done this way? Who knows. But with this builderon this house, it was.)

    • Completed the contract.  ✔
    • Design the home and meet with the contractor
    • Decided on the Exterior of the Home. ✔
    • Requested HOA approval. ✔
    • Closed on the home.  ✔
    • Chose the Appliances.  ✔
    • Received HOA approval. ✔

    • Now here we are... Making choices on the Interior of the Home....
    • ... then they talked about setting up a meeting with an electrician
    • ...maybe one day they will start on the lot clearing...

...BUT.... I haven't made it that far yet. I am getting ahead of myself.

So back to where I am in this process. The overwhelming INTERIOR design meeting. What made this the most difficult was the night before I received a call from my husband. (No, the call was not the "surprising" thing. We talk ALL the time!) This call was a new call, one I had never had from him. His voice was different. The excitement I heard in his voice, different. "Jenn, so I was thinking, (laughs can begin... but he does often think) let's go a little crazy. Like at the interior maybe some crazy floor. Or wild cabinets. But make sure we make it unique."
Okay. When the shock of the call ended we texted each other a few photos. He shared some likes. I think the first one was a BIG star that he wanted on the entryway (I get it we live in Texas. We are building a Texas Home... but a STAR???) He wanted me to understand what he was thinking.... the following texts were sent:

↑↑--What do you think of the Two-Toned?↑↑

"I am thinking a little crazy. Thoughts?" →→

←←★☆★☆"Really Texas Right?"

As I closed my eyes I knew the disaster I had just put myself in. I had just realized this. He wanted DIFFERENT. I am NOT different.  WE ARE NOT DIFFERENT. He wanted crazy and unique. Okay yes, that describes me to the tee.

He wanted STYLISH. Bold. Plain BUT Colorful

Jason and I are not super stylish. We are not trendy. Our idea of designs are the exact things we find at the store on display. We often do not deviate. If the display looks so good why change it? For eleven years, that's three rooms, we had an amazing Artist come in and paint our kids rooms. They deserved to live in FUN. She is in San Antonio- check her out! http://crystalsandovalfineart.com/room-mural-gallery/ As an infant Malikai was in that UNDERWATER room. He moved into the Spiderman Room and Mason was blessed to have his own Circus! She was amazing! But I am just saying, we are plain in the decor in our home. I am creative. LOVE making things (you know that I find off Pinterest and can RE-create).  But incase you do not get what this is saying is I AM NOT STYLISH. This man, a man I have known for more than 15 years was asking ME to add STYLE and FUN to a home. BY MYSELF. This was completely outside BOTH of our lanes. (I am the girl that likes to stay in her own lane!)

So it's possible I made this an overwhelming process. But he really threw a curve ball at me (PS. I don't watch baseball either!) When I walked into the design meeting I let Elyse and Crystal (this is that designer I mentioned above and my bestie who are here to make sure it looks good.)

We started with the floors. This was pretty easy. We wanted something to keep the house light and bright. I knew we'd agree (by we, I mean Me and the imaginary husband that was super busy with a meeting that he couldn't even Facetime with me). I stayed pretty "plain" for the house flooring. But I told the ladies we could get a little "wild with bathrooms and the laundry room." They helped me to have fun with this. Kitchen was super important to me. I mean it's the room everyone is in. It's the main focus.
My husbands words were in my head.
"Two toned, a little crazy."
But I also knew I would be spending MY time in here. Throwing parties and welcoming family and friends.  So as the samples came out. Dark cabinets, white cabinets? What crazy thing would I add? Two-Toned cabinets? Backsplash? The options were endless. So what I did know was the floors I wanted and they were compared to each cabinet I thought about. Then I saw it. The FUN colored cabinet I could add that would make my husbands day. We did a fun ISLAND option. I moved on to the backsplash and kitchen sink. This was by far the most fun I had! When we went into the bathrooms. I decided we could have a little MORE fun here too. We did some designer floors and matched everything with them. I couldn't agree to the STAR on the floor, this wasn't even an option I was considering. The craziest I went was the LAUNDRY Room. So now I think I we might need upgrade to a COLORFUL Washer & Dryer to put in it! lol.

Faucets were pretty simple to me. I didn't really care much and think we stuck to a pretty basic option. We did choose an oversized shower so I may have added a rain option!! Doors, baseboards choices... the next biggest option was the PAINT. Ceilings and walls. I knew we wanted bright so whites and grays were brought out. I went with Repose Gray... What do you think?

Although, when all was said and done and I saw all of my choices laid out on the table the excitement amplified. The feeling of being overwhelmed just lifted away and the eagerness just OVERWHELMED ME! I am so excited to see this all come together. Who would have thought building your OWN home would be so exciting. Choosing your own things would be so fulfilling. Now to see what the husband thinks... Hopefully he likes my choices. If not, oh well I guess.
