The Exterior.

What will you SEE first? The Exterior.

The first meet up is the EXTERIOR design. Before everything was even ready to go we needed to determine what was going on with the exterior of the home. (Some lots may have an Homeowners Association that requires this information in order to get approval to build. This was our case so the exterior needed to be determined to add to the request.)

So the exterior design begins:

As I entered this meeting I was really unsure what this would actually be. I mean I have been to numerous design studio appointments, but this one just felt different. I am unsure if that was because it was 1) my home or 2) a custom builder. But I really walked in unsure of what would happen first.

And this was absolutely true. The difference wasn't that I wasn't prepared to make a paint choice or choose a door. It was this choice that I was making was a PERMANENT one. This was OUR home. It immediately began to get hot in this room and I looked at the design gal, Elyse and my friend that decided to help me on the journey Crystal, and hoped they were going to guide me through this. At the time of contract we decided what we wanted in the exterior... but now we had to make ALL of the choices.

***Just to add a little background to this story. My husband and I have decided after almost 8 years of owning our lot that we would SELL THE HOUSE and BUILD our DREAM HOME! At the same time, that husband received orders and left town. He is extremely busy at work and so the bulk of everything is UP TO ME! As for me, the boys and I decided to move into our camper (it is a 36 foot bunk bed model with a kitchen and private master bedroom. So we certainly are not roughing it too much.)***

To start we began looking at all of the STONE choices. I found this to be the easiest decision. How did you want the stone to lay, straight or offset? What color did you want? This really made me think (falsely think..) that this was going to be a really easy meeting.

Then deciding on colors, on the roof, on the colors of the frame. What did you want your garage door to look like and your front door. The questions continued and I was just choosing one thing after another. I was very grateful to SEE and TOUCH everything. I was also able to put the roof shingles with paint chips and stone choice. This made it a little easier.

But did you know there were SOO many roof shingle choices?

When we finished I was able to visualize my homes exterior. Now let's get this party started!
